【内容简介】 
 
　　本片讲述以桌球赌博为生的年轻职业球手艾迪,向芝加哥久负盛名的提夫挑战,因输给了他而一蹶不振。某夜天色将明时,艾迪在一家咖啡店邂逅一位期望当小说家却不良于行的女大学生西拉,由于二人各有不同的遭遇,所以相互同情对方,从此陷入爱河。艾迪遇见巴多,他曾观看艾迪的比赛,想做他的经理人,但因为分红不公艾迪拒绝了他,后来因为经济困难而不得不借助巴多,终于获得最后的胜利。可是西拉却因失身于巴多绝望离去,下落不明。艾迪以此为由,毅然与巴多分手,再度向提夫挑战,经过一场激战,终于洗雪前耻。
