　　李志超（周润发 饰）个性沉着稳重，是可以信任的所在，周强（狄龙 饰）行事向来风风火火，对罪犯毫不留情，然而，个性上的截然相反并没能阻止两人成为相互信赖的同时兼好友。多年以前，正是周强的精明强干令大毒枭姚达（徐少强 饰）锒铛入狱，如今，姚达即将出狱，而周强的搭档却死于非命，这两件事情的发生令人不得不怀疑其中必有关联。
