　　一次意外中，乔（丹尼尔·克雷格 Daniel Craig 饰）目睹了一个人的残酷死亡，尽管表面上没有任何表现，但乔的内心却发生了巨大的动摇，当时的情形和死者的面貌不时的浮现在乔的脑海中，久久不能挥散。一个名叫杰德（瑞斯·伊凡斯 Rhys Ifans 饰）的男人出现在了乔的生活中，杰德亦是那场死亡的目击者之一，他竟然指责乔，声称是乔导致了他人的死亡。
　　
　　乔平静的生活因为杰德的出现而彻底划下了句点，他感到杰德像一张收得越来越紧的网，令人窒息。由于杰德的不断骚扰，乔和女友克莱尔（萨曼莎·莫顿 Samantha Morton 饰）之间的关系也产生了裂痕。随着时间的推移，杰德的举动和纠缠越发的病态，而乔的精神也逐渐走向了崩溃，他不明白，杰德想到的究竟是什么。
